How To Turn Off Power Management
Windows comes loaded with power management settings that when left on are not suitable for business environments, especially when running POS software. Please check the settings listed below and configure for maximum performance:
- Turn off power management on the network card. Navigate to the Control Panel>Device Manager>Network Adapters. Expand the Network Adapter Category to reveal all network adapters. One by one, double click on the network adapters and look for a tab labeled “power management”. Uncheck/turn off all power management on the network card.
- Turn off power management for the USB Hubs. Navigate to the Control Panel>Device Manager>USB Serial Bus Controllers. Expand the USB Serial Bus Controllers Category to reveal all USB hubs. One by one, double click on any listed hub and look for a tab labeled “power management”. Uncheck/turn off all power management for USB hubs.
- Set Power Options to Maximum Performance. Navigate to Control Panel>Power Options. Choose the Maximum Performance plan. (Choose “Show Additional Plans“). Click on the “Change Plan Settings” link. Set all values to “never”. Choose the “Change advanced power settings” link. A new window will open with several choices. Make sure the following settings are set to never: Sleep, Hibernate, Turn off hard disk, Display. Additionally, under the USB category, disable “USB selective suspend”
